What is the SASTM System?
The SASTM System is a form of augmented soft tissue mobilization that utilizes a method and instruments for treating soft tissue injuries. This leading-edge, non-invasive treatment is performed with ergonomically designed instruments that allow the physical therapist to stimulate the patient's own capacity for healing in dealing with soft tissue degeneration, fibrosis or chronic inflammation.
How does the SASTM system work?
Instruments effectively break down fascial restrictions and scar tissue. The ergonomic design of these instruments provides the therapist with the ability to locate restrictions through sound waves. This allows the physical therapist to treat the affected area with the appropriate amount of pressure, due to the square surface concept.
The introduction of controlled micro-trauma to affected soft tissue structure causes the stimulation of a local inflammatory response. Micro-trauma initiates reabsorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade of healing activities resulting in remodeling of affected soft tissue structures. Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.
What can the patient expect?
Patients receive a thorough evaluation by a SASTM-certified rehabilitation clinician followed by a SASTM treatment (approximately 10-15 minutes) for each affected area. The instruments help the therapist identify and treat areas of soft tissue dysfunction. Patients then progress through a stretching and strengthening regimen tailored to their individual needs. A functional progression program is initiated to optimally adapt patients' bodies to the specific demands of their work, athletic, or recreational activities. Patients are seen twice a week with visits two days apart and are responsible for maintaining a home flexibility program. Patients may experience an increase in soreness, inflammation, and/or mild bruising for 24-48 hours following a treatment session. Patients typically experience a decrease in pain with an increase in mobility and functional ability within the first 3-4 treatments.
What's different about the SASTM System?
It is demonstrated by scientific research and outcomes.
It demonstrates success where other approaches have failed.
It has high patient compliance.
It often enables patients to stay on their job or in their activity.
It often decreases the need for surgical intervention.
It provides maximal results with a minimal number of treatments with an emphasis on re-establishing function.
A personalized approach to your well-being.
